The Contraband: confidence is something you pack
Ninety-five seconds. One man, one day in Paris, and a secret he carries from morning to night. Watch the full movie
A man with a secret
Dawn in a quiet Paris apartment. A pair of shoes waits on the floor. Keys, laptop, and cardholder go into a black leather backpack, each in its place. By evening, he steps out of a black sixties coupé in front of a grand building, the sky turning blue over the city.
This is The Contraband, our new brand film. It follows the most confident man in Paris through a single day, in three looks: casual, contemporary, and dressed. People notice him. Nobody quite knows why.
The answer is in his bag and on his feet.

Confidence is something you pack
We have always believed that confidence is not something you perform. It is something you prepare. You choose what you carry with care, you trust it to hold up, and then you stop thinking about it. That is the freedom good leather gives you.
So we did not want a film where products parade past the camera. Five pieces from our collection play a part in the story: a derby, a loafer, a sneaker, a backpack, and a Stayover bag. They are worn, carried and used, the way you would use them. They earn their place in his day, and the day ends where every good day should: around a table with friends, laughing.
Paris, without the plane
Here is the twist. Every frame of The Contraband is set in Paris, and nobody flew to Paris.
The film was made by KYA Creative (studio) using AI film production, but it was directed the way a traditional film is directed. The idea, the script, and the look came first, and were agreed before a single frame was made. Then the cast, the wardrobe, the streets, and the rooms were locked, so the same faces and places hold from shot to shot. The more demanding camera moves were planned in 3D before anything was generated. Around 150 takes were made, and only the best made the cut. After that came the edit, the colour grade and an original track composed for the film. From brief to final film took six weeks.
The real product, in every frame
For a leather brand, one question matters more than any other: does it look like the real thing?
We built every bag and every shoe in the film from our own product photography. Leather, stitching, and soles were matched to the original pieces. When a detail was off, we corrected the shot until what you see on screen matches what you can hold in your hands.
Why we made it this way
Royal RepubliQ started in Denmark back in 2006 with a simple conviction: design with intention, make things that last, and put the effort where it counts. The Products.
A traditional brand movie in Paris means flights, a crew on location, permits, and weeks of production, and would require a budget of €200.000 to €250.000 before a single flight is booked. Making The Contraband this way meant the effort went into the idea and the craft, the part you actually see, and the budget was cut to a fraction of a conventional production.
This has given us the possibility to create something that resonates with our DNA, something which we actually are proud of, and something we can afford and stay true to our integrity: "Products First".
We are also telling you plainly how it was made, because we think you should know how the images you see are created. The film is made with AI. The products are not. Every piece in it is designed in Amsterdam and made by hand by our partner workshops in Portugal and India.
Thank you
A big thank you to Ziad and Ahmad at KYA Creative (studio). Before writing a single scene, they immersed themselves in our brand and our world. They researched the market and benchmarked our competitors. A few weeks later they presented the complete concept, from A to Z: storyboard, cast, props and all.
They were spot on. Their 20+ years in conventional filmmaking showed in every decision. At times it felt as if they understood our brand better than we did, and they knew how to unlock it. Twenty years of pursuing quality, form that follows function, longevity, and beautiful design, all anchored in our Aims Of Life, turned into a film.
After that sign-off meeting, we were confident they "got us." So we stepped back and gave them full creative control.
